Problem

Prospect and Refuge, a theory from interior design, describes people’s desire to have a place in which they can feel safe or recharge in. Primarily applied in interior design and architecture, the only way for us to find these comfortable spaces is to hope these spaces are built and rely on existing infrastructure to find them. This begs the question: should we rely on others to determine where we feel comfortable?

Process

This concept came from a discussion with a kind, now graduated couple which agreed to continue to be apart of this project’s development. At each phase, we met together online and would review progress and directions that best fit them and the project’s goal of comfort and security anywhere. Together, with the additional aid of an interior design professor and experienced soft goods designer, we created a Mobile Urban Refuge Seating solution.

Solution

From wilderness explorers to urban entrepreneurs, the first thing any good adventurer brings with them is their gear and a bag to reliably carry it all. By creating a bag that can be sat on, the user can find a spot that they decide is comfortable and make it their own in no time at all. Be you, no infrastructure required.
